RAT RACE Music and lyrics ©2016 Terry Taffinder Grosvenor R&T Grosvenor Publishing (Verse 1) Waking up, I ‘m faced with the things I should do My dreams were so nice, I wish they’d come true My perfect day is a clean empty page, to do what I want and get out of this cage I’m gonna’ leave this maze, leave this rat race behind (Hook) Rat race, rat race, rat race Rat race, rat race, rat race (Verse 2) We’re told what to buy, except when we sleep Business makes money and keeps us all sheep We’re bound up by rules that curtail our lives; we’re taxed more each year while the government thrives I’m gonna’ leave this maze, leave this rat race behind (Hook) Rat race, rat race, rat race Rat race, rat race, rat, race (Chorus) Gonna’ kick off my shoes, walk in the rain, turn off my fuse And slow down time to find a sweeter life Why don’t you come with me - we’ll lie down under the willow tree And see how good the world could be – we’ll get away and say goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Rat race must end, rat race must cease, leave us alone so we can live our lives in peace! Rat race must end, rat race must cease, leave us alone so we can live our lives in peace! (Verse 3) What ever happened to good common sense? People make mistakes at my expense I’ll move to an Island and live off the land Sing my own music, make up my own band I’m gonna’ leave this maze, leave this rat race behind (Chorus) I’ll become a dragonfly and escape this swamp when I fly up high And slow down time to find a sweeter life Why don’t you come with me; we’ll hang out in the willow tree And see how good the world could be – we’ll get away and say goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

In the Pines 04:03
IN THE PINES Music and lyrics ©2016 Terry Taffinder Grosvenor R&T Grosvenor Publishing Copper evening hillsides, ridged against the sky Run down to the water’s edge, to be silhouetted by the sea And you and I are nestled in the pines that blow easy and free In the pines that blow easy and free, in the pines that blow easy and free In the pines that whisper to you and me Within our slice of rose glow, from June’s strawberry moon, Peace reigns in the heavens and with earth’s creatures of the night And you and I are poised to soar, you and I are poised to soar You and I are poised to soar, like red-tailed hawks in flight Like red-tailed hawks in flight, like red-tailed hawks in flight We’ll fly to our heart’s delight I wish that we could dwell, in this Eden so far away, Where nature can cast her spell, and time is eternity Stay with me, stay with me, oh won’t you stay with me, stay with me Stay with me, stay with me, oh, please stay with me, stay with me As stars pursue their courses, and sea tides rise and fall The drowsy scent of lavender is wafting in the breeze And love’s intoxication, love’s intoxication Love’s intoxication is blowing through the trees It’s blowing through the trees, It’s knocked us to our knees It’s knocked us to our knees The pines whisper to you and me That time - that time is an eternity Let’s soar - soar - to our heart’s delight And make memories of this night

SAIL AWAY Music and lyrics ©2016 Terry Taffinder Grosvenor R&T Grosvenor Publishing I walk the streets of this old town Newport is my home I see the ocean shining bright It beacons me to roam I'll leave the desk that ties me down To hear the seagulls squawk I'll feel the wind upon my face And head down to the dock Sail away, sail away, sail away, I'll just sail away Sail away, sail away Into the sparkling water on this beautiful day We'll grab our gear and buy some chips And stow the ice and beer And greet the other sailors as we stride along the pier Once we're aboard, we'll raise the jib And hoist the main full sail I've got the tiller, you hold the sheet Now, let the wind prevail Sail away, sail away, sail away, we'll just sail away Sail away, sail away Into the sparkling water on this beautiful day Sail away, sail away Sail away, sail away We'll sail our boat into the sun As light fades to the west With salt blown hair and wind burned skin It's time to take a rest We'll catch our mooring, call the launch Tie up all the sails And go ashore to have a bite, relax And tell some tails Sail away, sail away, sail away, we just sailed away Sail away, sail away Into the sparkling water on this beautiful day Into the sparkling water on this beautiful day Into the sparkling water on this beautiful day

Will You Pull Strings or Give Me Wings? Music and lyrics ©2016 Terry Taffinder Grosvenor R&T Grosvenor Publishing (Verse 1) Mix me up and turn me upside down It’s a challenge having you around I’m searching for the master key You appear to be a mystery man I examine all the clues I can But I’ve seen the way you look at me -oh (Verse 2) You give to me and I give to you Isn’t that what couples do What finally happens in the end? Full moons gone, memories linger on Are you Prince Charming, or just Don Juan Is this for real or just pretend? (Chorus) I’m ready for another round, I’ll swim fast so I won’t drown and I’ll get my feet back on the ground, ground, ground You made me fell so many things I dream of love and golden rings Will you pull strings or give me wings, wings, wings? Hey, hey, hey (Verse 3) I get fed up with the things you do But like a magnet, I’m drawn to you We’re yin and yang in every way We fly so high, then we fall apart Muddling through matters of the heart I think of leaving, but not today - no (Bridge) Tick, tock, goes the clock – time is a wastin’ Every part of me’s invested in you Do I stand here all alone – am I in a danger zone How will I know? What should I do? (Chorus) I’m ready for another round, you set me up to knock me down But I’ll get my feet back on the ground, ground, ground You’ve made me fell so many things I dream of love and golden rings Will you pull strings or give me wings, wings, wings? REPEAT 2x

THAT’S WHEN I THINK OF YOU Music and lyrics ©2016 Terry Taffinder Grosvenor R&T Grosvenor Publishing Dark clouds form in the autumn sky Leaves dance twirling when the breeze whips by That’s when I think of you Deep in the woods, I feel free and wild I seek adventure like a teenage child That’s when I think of you Life goes on and on I live in my own dream It’s quite familiar now, with one recurring theme Late at night, I scan the heavens When I close my eyes, then you appear You don’t know how much I miss you How could I live one day without you in my life I try to work but memories block my way I’m caught off guard almost everyday It’s when I think of you I take a walk on a windy day I see the geese traveling on their way That's when I think of you I cling to yesterdays, the future’s not too clear But in this moment now I wish you were here Late at night, I scan the heavens When I close my eyes, then you appear You don’t know how much I miss you How could I live one day without you in my life Looking up at the palette of stars And the wonder of what they are Making a wish I hope will come true And all the while, I’m thinking of you I can’t fight it anymore You’re the key, and I’m the door Don’t want to live and feel I’ve missed Being with the one that makes me want to exist I can’t fight it anymore You’re the key, and I’m the door Don’t want to live and feel I’ve missed Being with the one that makes me want to exist Late at night, I scan the heavens When I close my eyes, then you appear You don’t know how much I miss you How could I live one day without you in my life

I’ve Found My Home in You Music and lyrics ©2016 Terry Taffinder Grosvenor R&T Grosvenor Publishing How many times I have wandered How many times I have roamed Always looking for a place that I would call my home Now I've found my home in you How many miles I have traveled Only to find I've gone nowhere The best times in my life are the ones that I've shared Now I share these moments with you I would retreat when I felt overwhelmed And hide feelings so no one would see Now I run to the arms that are open to me And I'm just where I want to be How many chances I've wasted Keeping the words inside my heart Never saying all the things, I really meant to say Now I say all these words to you How many times I have wandered How many times I have roamed Always looking for a place that I would call my home Now I've found my home in you I have found my home in you I've found my home in you Hum, etc.

Love Is 03:36
LOVE IS Music and lyrics ©2016 Terry Taffinder Grosvenor R&T Grosvenor Publishing Some say love is fickle Love can also be blind Love is something that finds you It isn’t something you find Love starts with a flicker and builds into a fire Love makes me tingle inside And it lifts me higher and higher Your love has got me, your love has got me now Your love has got me, your love has got me Your love, your love, your love, your love Your love has got me now Your love, your love, your love, you love Your love has got me now Skeptics say love’s a pain in the ass It never seems to last It’s bitter, then sweet, then it’s goodbye But how do you know if you never take a risk And let your heart run free Just give love, give love a try Give love, just give love a try Good love is unconditional - it never grows old Love is stronger than death and its value is greater than gold Love is a gift we’re given – it’s outside out control Love makes our lives worth living It rocks me right to my soul Your love has got me, your love has got me Your love, your love, your love, your love Your love has got me Your love, your love, your love, your love Your love has got me now Your love has sought me, your love has caught me Your love has taught me, and your love has got me So, give me more, give me more

The Highwayman BY Alfred Noyes Music ©2016 Terry Taffinder Grosvenor R&T Grosvenor Publishing The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees.    The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas.    The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,    And the highwayman came riding, riding—riding— The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door. He’d a French cocked-hat on his forehead, a bunch of lace at his chin,    A coat of the claret velvet, and breeches of brown doe-skin. They fitted with never a wrinkle. His boots were up to the thigh.    And he rode with a jeweled twinkle, his pistol butts a-twinkle, His rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jeweled sky. Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark inn-yard. He tapped with his whip on the shutters, but all was locked and barred.    He whistled a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there    But the landlord’s black-eyed daughter, Bess, the landlord’s daughter, Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair. And dark in the dark old inn-yard a stable-wicket creaked Where Tim the ostler listened. His face was white and peaked.    His eyes were hollows of madness, his hair like mouldy hay,    But he loved the landlord’s daughter, the landlord’s red-lipped daughter. Dumb as a dog he listened, and he heard the robber say— “One kiss, my bonny sweetheart, I’m after a prize to-night, But I shall be back with the yellow gold before the morning light; Yet, if they press me sharply, and harry me through the day,    Then look for me by moonlight, watch for me by moonlight, I’ll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way.” He rose uptight in the stirrups. He scarce could reach her hand, But she loosened her hair in the casement. His face burnt like a brand As the black cascade of perfume came tumbling over his breast;  And he kissed its waves in the moonlight, (Oh, sweet black waves in the moonlight!) Then he tugged at his rein in the moonlight, and galloped away to the west. He did not come in the dawning. He did not come at noon;    And out of the tawny sunset, before the rise of the moon,    When the road was a gypsy’s ribbon, looping the purple moor,    A red-coat troop came marching, marching—marching— King George’s men came marching, up to the old inn-door. They said no word to the landlord. They drank his ale instead.    But they gagged his daughter, and bound her, to the foot of her narrow bed. Two of them knelt at her casement, with muskets at their side!    There was death at every window, and hell at one dark window; For Bess could see, through her casement, the road that he would ride. They had tied her up to attention, with many a sniggering jest. They had bound a musket beside her, with the muzzle beneath her breast! “Now, keep good watch!” and they kissed her. She heard the doomed man say— Look for me by moonlight, watch for me by moonlight; I’ll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way! THOUGH HELL SHOULD BAR THE WAY She twisted her hands behind her; but all the knots held good! She writhed her hands till her fingers were wet with sweat or blood!    They stretched and strained in the darkness, and the hours crawled by like years Till, now, on the stroke of midnight, cold, on the stroke of midnight, The tip of one finger touched it! The trigger at least was hers! The tip of one finger touched it. She strove no more for the rest.    Up, she stood up to attention, with the muzzle beneath her breast.    She would not risk their hearing; she would not strive again;    For the road lay bare in the moonlight; blank and bare in the moonlight; And the blood of her veins, in the moonlight, throbbed to her love’s refrain. Tlot-tlot; tlot-tlot! Had they heard it? The horse hoofs ringing clear;    Tlot-tlot; tlot-tlot, in the distance? Were they deaf that they did not hear? Down the ribbon of moonlight, over the brow of the hill, The highwayman came riding—riding—riding— The red coats looked to their priming! She stood up, straight and still. Tlot-tlot, in the frosty silence! Tlot-tlot, in the echoing night!    Nearer he came and nearer. Her face was like a light. Her eyes grew wide for a moment; she drew one last deep breath,    Then her finger moved in the moonlight, her musket shattered the moonlight, Shattered her breast in the moonlight and warned him—with her death. He turned; he spurred to the west; he did not know who stood    Bowed, with her head o’er the musket, drenched with her own blood!    Not till the dawn he heard it, and his face grew grey to hear    How Bess, the landlord’s daughter, the landlord’s black-eyed daughter, Had watched for her love in the moonlight, and died in the darkness there. Back, he spurred like a madman, shrieking a curse to the sky, With the white road smoking behind him and his rapier brandished high. Blood red were his spurs in the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat; When they shot him down on the highway, down like a dog on the highway, And he lay in his blood on the highway, with a bunch of lace at his throat. And still of a winter’s night, they say, when the wind is in the trees, When the moon is a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,    When the road is a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,    A highwayman comes riding—riding—riding— A highwayman comes riding, up to the old inn-door. Over the cobbles he clatters and clangs in the dark inn-yard. He taps with his whip on the shutters, but all is locked and barred.    He whistles a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there    But the landlord’s black-eyed daughter, Bess, the landlord’s daughter, Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair.

Backward, Turn Backward (Based on the poem “Rock Me to Sleep” by Elizabeth Allen) Music and lyrics ©2016 Terry Taffinder Grosvenor R&T Grosvenor Publishing Backward, turn backward, oh time in your flight Make me a child again, just for tonight Bring back warm summers and dreams of the past Slowing each moment that now moves so fast Take from my forehead the furrows of care Smooth all the silver threads out of my hair Show me green gardens of beauty and light Take me away to these places tonight Backward, turn backward, oh tide of each year Leave me with family and friends that are dear Strike up the band with sweet music and song Play a fine tune that will last a life long Running down pathways that pass by the sea Laughing at nothing, we’re once again free Dancing and twirling beneath the moonlight Take us away to these places tonight Many a summer, the grass has grown green Blossomed and faded, our faces between Years have flown by, but it often shall seem All of our years have been only a dream Years have flown by, by it often shall seem All of our years have been only a dream

about

Thinking of escaping the rat race, if only for an hour? Then listen to this musical album by Terry Taffinder Grosvenor that will transport you through songs about love, travel and poetry.

Let’s start our musical journey with “Rat Race,” then spend an evening “In the Pines,” followed by a “Sail Away” into the sparkling waters of Newport Harbor. The next song poses the question, “Will You Pull Strings or Give Me Wings?” With wings, we can fly to a favorite country in South America, “Como Vai Meu Brasil?” But often, when we travel, we remember someone we've left behind, “That’s When I Think of You,” and “You’re the Fire of My Desire.” It’s good to get back, “I’ve Found My Home in You,” and contemplate all the things that “Love Is.” The album moves on to a rocking version of “Will You Pull Stings or Give Me Wings!” The poetic part of this journey remembers old verses to a tragic love story, “The Highwayman.” At the end, in our minds, we yearn to turn back the clock and become a child again, “Backward, Turn Backward.”
